Donna Clifford’s Rock Faces

This is the final weekend to see the Fell’s art show, Nature an Appreciation. This eclectic show features stunning photographs, paintings, pen and ink drawings , whimsical illustrations and textiles that are depictions of natural wonders or inspired by nature. Not too be missed are Donna Clifford’s fascinating photos of faces in the rocks taken at national parks in the southwest and Christine Vogan’s photograph entitled Laura’s Lips, immediately captures your gaze, drawing you in to the center of a bright red flower.

Standouts of this year’s exhibit are the works by Ingeborg Burgraff, a longtime member of the Friends. A master of many mediums, Ingeborg champions the use of natural materials. Among the materials used are petals, mud, vegetable skins and birch bark. With these materials she crafts compelling visual art.

By embracing nature at all levels, her work embodies the spirit of the show. She has the command of her materials like the master Renaissance painters. Her birch river collage is a swirling, hypnotic rushing river made from various shades of birch bark. Her work depicting a wooded area in winter is made from several types of mud and the show stopper, Petalville, is a small town made from hundreds of petals from several different flowers.

The show is Saturday from 11-3 at the Beebe Estate, 275 West Foster St, Melrose.
